The 9-Player Hunter Deck — Roles and Rules

Last updated

Seat one Hunter and neither "vote them out" nor "bite them" comes free at this table. Executed or attacked, the Hunter fires on death, taking one survivor along — the village's insurance against a wrong vote; a landmine buried in the wolves' bite list.

The Medium's seat, traded for a gun

The skeleton matches the '9P Medium Room' (Villager 3, Knight 1, Seer 1, Madman 1, Werewolf 2) — the one difference: the Medium's seat is a Hunter. ∴ This table has no next-morning verdict on whoever it executed.

The answer key arrives at the moment of death instead. Execute the Hunter, and the shot phase cuts in on the spot — the whole table is told the dead player was the Hunter. A mis-vote on the village's own gun has nowhere to hide, and it comes with a return shot attached.

And the reverse: no other death opens a shot phase. ∴ When the Madman fakes a Hunter claim, the lie peels off at the moment of the faker's death. A table with no Medium — where a fake still has an expiry date. That twist is this deck's flavor.

From the wolves' seats: every bite is a lottery ticket

The wolves draw a ticket every night here.

  • Bite the Hunter, and the morning's casualty report opens the shot phase — one survivor goes down with it. Nothing guarantees it isn't you; and with two wolves in nine players, one dead wolf pulls the village's checkmate close.
  • ∴ "Might be the Hunter" gets postponed — the Hunter is a rare power that shields its holder by existing. Standing tall under suspicion is real work at this table.

The village's side: the bullet is worth what the read is worth

  • The Hunter's shot is not verified information — it lands wherever the dead player's read pointed, right or wrong. ∴ Hunter: leave your reasoning before you die. Your last stated read is what aims the gun.
  • Nine players don't carry many executions. A mis-spent rope with one paid-back shot attached — that is the only insurance this village gets.

Choosing between the 9P rooms

Stack verification and squeeze step by step: the Medium's table. One shot's deterrence and the mind games around it: this one. A first 9-player game usually starts at the '9P Medium Room'; once the group knows the rhythm, the Hunter room is the change-up.
